Guidance and Information
The Ship Safety Division of BG Verkehr is responsible on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport for verifying compliance with the requirements of the ISM-Code. The Ship Safety Divisiondeals itself also intensively with all questions of the organization of Safety Management Systems and develops standards and guidelines, in order to strengthen the effectiveness of them.
Our experts are experienced master mariners and chief engineers. They assist the companies and recognized organizations in fulfilling the comprehensive requirements of the ISM-Code following uniform principles effectively and practically.
The Ship Safety Division carries out:
- all administrative tasks for the implementation of the ISM-Code including issuance of relevant certificates
- development of flag state principles for the implementation of the ISM-Code
- practical consultation of companies by experienced master mariners and chief engineers
- evaluation, optimization and dynamic advancement of Safety Management Systems
- active monitoring and observation of auditing procedures
- development of objectives and guidelines, which serve the companies as basis for the development and maintenance of Safety Management Systems
- information of companies about developments and requirements in the field of safe management and operation of ships
Audits
The company may assign the Ship Safety Division of BG Verkehr or one of the recognized organizations (ROs) with the verification of its Safety Management System.
Support in case of deficiencies and / or detentions during Port State Controls
The BG Verkehr supports companies if they have problems or discussions about port state control deficiencies and/or detentions of their ships under the German flag.
Operational Rules and Guidelines
You will find an overview about important rules and guidelines relevant for ship operation in Downloads ISM. It shall render assistance to comply with mandatory standards and respective guidelines and recommendations, but does not claim completeness because of the variety of regulations.
