Tasks of recognized class societies
Cooperation of Ship Safety Division with recognized classication societies
For the time being the Ship Safety division ("Dienststelle Schiffssicherheit") has an “Agreement on the Assignment of Tasks” with following classification societies:
- Germanischer Lloyd (GL)
- Det Norske Veritas (DNV)
- Bureau Veritas (BV)
- Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR)
- American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS)
- Registro Italiano Navale (RINA)
According to this agreement it is allowed for the recognized class societies to carry out all required statutory surveys (initial, annual, periodical, intermediate and renewal surveys). It is also allowed to carry out the required annual endorsements in all International Ship Safety Certificates and to issue short term certificates on behalf of See-Berufsgenossenschaft by their own surveyors. This agreement includes also plan approval and survey in connection with new buildings and conversions of SOLAS ships.
